How We Can All Be Better At Getting To The Point

For any of you that have known me for some time, you know I’m a talker. Which is kind of unusual for a guy like me. Unusual I suppose because research (like the study referenced here) has shown that women speak on average 13000 words a day more than men.

But I would bet that I give the best of you ladies a run for your money. That’s just who I am. I love to communicate.

The truth of the matter though, is that there is only one perfect amount of words that one can use.

Enough.

That’s really tricky to figure out what that is because it’s a lot easier to either under or over conmunicate a point.

So, how do we do it?

Well here’s what I’ve been trying.

1. Say exactly what I mean. Nothing more, nothing less.

2. Get to the point quickly. And make sure it’s clear.

3. Ask the other person if they understand.

That’s it. Pretty simple really. Now it’s just a matter of putting it to practice.

Are you a talker too? Or maybe do you avoid those of us who are the chatty ones?

Let me know in the comments below!
